Color Story: Pink and Gold

If you're like me, I start noticing patterns in things. It starts out in subtle ways. At first, it's just a spread in a magazine that I think is pretty, then next thing I know, every photo I'm pinning on Pinterest has similar details. The brain works in mysterious ways. The most recent incarnation of this phenomenon is my seeming obsession with the color combination of pink (or blush or some variation) and gold. Why? I have no idea. The pink and gold chair and the chandelier piqued my interest for some reason - I don't know why. This is not even particularly my style - it's a little formal, and dare I say, frou-frou for me. But I do love a little unexpected aged, gilded piece of French furniture here and there. I think the soft, subtle color combo is so nice. I just love her use of contrasts. So dramatic. Tone it down several notches, and that's what I'm going for. Mary has a dark taupey-gray on the walls as do I (although mine is lighter) with accents of white, black and yellow - also what I'm going for. I would love a bigger version of the small yellow bolsters she has on the black leather chairs across my bed. Have a Malachite Thanksgiving . . .

Oops, I meant to say, "have a Happy Thanksgiving" but I've had malachite on the brain (and on my hands) for the past couple of days. Unfortunately, I don't have any great recipes to share, and we're cheating by eating out for Thanksgiving with my in-laws so I don't have any great table settings to share. Also, my remote control fits nicely in there. I'm sorry I didn't photograph the process very well, but I basically just bought one of those little hinged balsa wood boxes from Michael's then followed the faux malachite directions from <a href="http://gorgeousshinythings.blogspot.com/2011/03/how-to-faux-malachite.html">Gorgeous Shiny Things</a>. I had to improvise on the paint colors a bit as I used what I had or what I could find at Home Depot, but otherwise, pretty much did what she did. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I am so thankful for all my friends and family this Thanksgiving, but also for all my blog friends and readers out there.
