Dining Room Design: orange

About a week ago I was trolling Craigslist looking for . . . whatever. I think the key to CL is to not have a goal otherwise you get disappointed really quickly. But, this day I saw something that made my heart pitter patter. An orange velvet vintage Baker sofa with down cushions. This could look perfect in my <a href="http://www.myinteriorlife.blogspot.com/2012/01/flea-fail-and-fish.html">Tornado Room</a>. I emailed to inquire and had to wait two long days for a response, but it was worth it. It now sits in the Tornado Room awaiting some pillows . . .<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKwFMZDo2D-0wUWdkimCD-tO1X3jK1bE0w2C0CBZiEbtrB_Q5SUF4ozrSQN1MZDJ61xJavvthfxBIB4vPE2wLDVDEVjK1z9edHeV83OlZvM85Xk0igjBreeBaqnA930Vz_QM8xbu2ER1gY/s1600/IMG_1402.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKwFMZDo2D-0wUWdkimCD-tO1X3jK1bE0w2C0CBZiEbtrB_Q5SUF4ozrSQN1MZDJ61xJavvthfxBIB4vPE2wLDVDEVjK1z9edHeV83OlZvM85Xk0igjBreeBaqnA930Vz_QM8xbu2ER1gY/s400/IMG_1402.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">I love it and especially think the orange pops against the blue walls. The same day the sofa was being delivered I found a couple of tufted black and white ottomans at Homegoods.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8qmWry5PLismR3yitQGrg7VBELWzYsn5zunLDTsclMxcrQbWYKk9kPIYt3QUbmii91TebCo7AY_ypMBHafDLKwib86noCAstcQQaIBG5HAzZSEakaD4dRnSvfO6T5LetQzbswax0KI9zJ/s1600/IMG_1401.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8qmWry5PLismR3yitQGrg7VBELWzYsn5zunLDTsclMxcrQbWYKk9kPIYt3QUbmii91TebCo7AY_ypMBHafDLKwib86noCAstcQQaIBG5HAzZSEakaD4dRnSvfO6T5LetQzbswax0KI9zJ/s640/IMG_1401.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>I think they look great, and were a decent price. Is it bad that the two ottomans cost about as much as the sofa? Of course, the wall is awaiting some art, but that will take a little time. Here are some inspiration rooms I've had on Pinterest for a while . . . do you see the similarities?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="line-height: 0px; padding-bottom: 2px;"><a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/24488391693647337/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="398" src="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/24488391693647337_ymIgiLpH_c.jpg" width="600" /></a></div><div style="float: left; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><div style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px;">Source: <a href="http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=OTf&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1266&bih=589&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=z8oalaqDCwd12M:&imgrefurl=http://www.decorpad.com/photo.htm%3FphotoId%3D81930&docid=lHFPOQt2qsh79M&imgurl=http://www.decorpad.com/photos/2010/08/08/a8d27414cd0d.jpg&w=740&h=491&ei=kg8nT5HdF-zLsQLQz7yMAg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=618&vpy=285&dur=5712&hovh=183&hovw=276&tx=106&ty=111&sig=101393809232362408256&page=1&tbnh=126&tbnw=178&start=0&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:10,s:0" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;">google.com</a> via <a href="http://pinterest.com/myinteriorlife/" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">My Interior Life</a> on <a href="http://pinterest.com/" style="color: #76838b; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Pinterest</a></div></div></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="line-height: 0px; padding-bottom: 2px;"><a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/24488391693647348/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="549" src="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/24488391693647348_HNgIETRG_c.jpg" width="600" /></a></div><div style="float: left; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><div style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px;">Source: <a href="http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=OTf&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1266&bih=589&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=QR7etInpNjwhfM:&imgrefurl=http://www.thelennoxx.com/browse-by-room/dining-room/victoria-websters-bold-new-wallpaper/&docid=dE6l7KPYxp615M&imgurl=http://www.thelennoxx.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/study-black-matte-walls-blue-red-sofa-graphis-blue-carpeting.jpg&w=610&h=559&ei=kg8nT5HdF-zLsQLQz7yMAg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=748&vpy=166&dur=6285&hovh=215&hovw=235&tx=97&ty=126&sig=101393809232362408256&page=2&tbnh=126&tbnw=138&start=21&ndsp=25&ved=1t:429,r:16,s:21" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;">google.com</a> via <a href="http://pinterest.com/myinteriorlife/" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">My Interior Life</a> on <a href="http://pinterest.com/" style="color: #76838b; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Pinterest</a></div></div></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="line-height: 0px; padding-bottom: 2px;"><a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/24488391693647340/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="460" src="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/24488391693647340_ybiAGEHy_c.jpg" width="360" /></a></div><div style="float: left; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px;"><div style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px;">Source: <a href="http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=OTf&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1266&bih=589&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=aIJDdq8uBGaBvM:&imgrefurl=http://www.housebeautiful.com/decorating/outrageous-color-combinations-for-rooms&docid=GO_GS-YPHCAliM&imgurl=http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/decorating-redd-8-0709-xl.jpg&w=360&h=460&ei=kg8nT5HdF-zLsQLQz7yMAg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=366&vpy=203&dur=208&hovh=254&hovw=199&tx=104&ty=189&sig=101393809232362408256&page=1&tbnh=126&tbnw=111&start=0&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:8,s:0" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;">google.com</a> via <a href="http://pinterest.com/myinteriorlife/" style="color: #76838b; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">My Interior Life</a> on <a href="http://pinterest.com/" style="color: #76838b; text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Pinterest</a></div></div></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;">I know <a href="http://www.pantone.com/pages/pantone/category.aspx?ca=88">Tangerine Tango is the Pantone color of the year</a>, but I swear I wasn't thinking about that when I made my decision. Orange Crush

About a week ago I was trolling Craigslist looking for . . . whatever. I think the key to CL is to not have a goal otherwise you get disappo...

I've been looking for a little something to shake up my dining room for a while. With our open floorplan home, it's the first room you see as you enter and it's also visible from our family room/living room. The walls are a grayish-blue, and the chairs and rug are very neutral. Recently, I've also added rusty orange velvet curtains. However, I keep thinking it needs (or wants) something else. Well, the other day, I just happened to buy some lavender mums and stuck them in my fish vase, and voila . . . thunderbolt.<br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp4C6sw0T7Os213G6ZZ4Zfkgd8YSYUQ3EjFgiLOZdS6KYoAS37viyEwdfUV8Ng8KQOBkyg2AdL31PpYW6ALnVUtIAW1sg881DmOiN3Hr9o38PHbLU5lBfLVI29PSxx33fnsIR_Ze5t5G3P/s1600/IMG_0508.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp4C6sw0T7Os213G6ZZ4Zfkgd8YSYUQ3EjFgiLOZdS6KYoAS37viyEwdfUV8Ng8KQOBkyg2AdL31PpYW6ALnVUtIAW1sg881DmOiN3Hr9o38PHbLU5lBfLVI29PSxx33fnsIR_Ze5t5G3P/s400/IMG_0508.jpg" width="300" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Mr. Fish eating lavender mums. Not the best photo of the walls and curtains.</td></tr></tbody></table>That's it. Lavender with the blue and orange would be so lovely.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>Then I went for some inspiration. First, Katie Ridder. I've always loved this room featured in <a href="http://www.elledecor.com/image/tid/3442?page=0">Elle Decor</a>.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitRrObqqhxDkn9zQpui3uDehgd-ZW2ZwlDu1EbKbeoxBJINk7sCIdu4IEiw5slZgpck8jM2An-A3Yf9ya-u9QHaogmw8piOAX-34w7IvDdlFCR4u6u9AnCieR7kOsCrE3qrvpZ6Z2XVur8/s1600/interior-decorating-ideas-ridder-ED0308-main.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="216" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitRrObqqhxDkn9zQpui3uDehgd-ZW2ZwlDu1EbKbeoxBJINk7sCIdu4IEiw5slZgpck8jM2An-A3Yf9ya-u9QHaogmw8piOAX-34w7IvDdlFCR4u6u9AnCieR7kOsCrE3qrvpZ6Z2XVur8/s400/interior-decorating-ideas-ridder-ED0308-main.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>And, of course, the Frank Babb Randolph-designed home in the April Veranda knocked my socks off. Wonder if I could steal that painting? I know everyone is "over" Chiang Mai Dragon, and that it was considered trendy for the longest time. Well, I still like it. I don't care if that makes me boring. And, it does look nice with the walls and the curtains, but alas it has no lavender. Does anyone know of a fabric that could pull it all together . . . a little blue, a little orange, a little lavender? This is a tall order, I know.<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Oh, and I have some plans for the curtains too - they're a little plain Jane right now. I've been thinking a little Greek Key trim would dress them up nicely.
